Home App: Guiding Users Through Home Ownership
Highlights: Built in a company hackathon; surfaced Realtor.com's MyHome experience into a standalone React Native app.
During one of Realtor.com’s annual hackathons, I assembled a small team, myself, Victor Cho, and Andy Wu, to take on an ambitious challenge: transform our fragmented homeowner ecosystem into a single, cohesive native app experience.
In just a few days, we built a fully functional React Native prototype that unified MyHome, Off Market Detail Pages, and Seller's Marketplace into one seamless app. The experience guided homeowners through their entire journey, from ownership insights to selling readiness, with a consistent, elegant design system that felt truly connected across web and mobile.
The project caught the attention of both our CPO and CEO, who explored how the concept could evolve into a production initiative. Although the app itself wasn't launched, many of its innovations, particularly around continuity between buying, owning, and selling, directly influenced subsequent features and strategy within Realtor.com’s consumer experience.
More than a hackathon win, this project demonstrated the power of rapid prototyping and focused vision, showing how a small, cross functional team can rethink a core experience in a matter of days.
